How to Achieve Natural Looking Filler Results

Lip filler results at Dr Mirali Aesthetics Streatham

By far the most common request at a consultation is for results that look natural. Almost nobody wants to look treated. They want to look like themselves, just a little fresher. Achieving that is less about the product and more about the approach, and this guide explains what actually produces a natural result.

What natural actually means

A natural result is one where people notice you look well without being able to say why. Nobody comments on your lips or your cheeks. They simply think you look rested. The aim is to enhance what you already have rather than to alter your features, so that you still look recognisably like you.

Less is genuinely more

The single biggest factor in a natural outcome is restraint. A conservative approach, doing a little and assessing how it settles, almost always looks better than doing a lot at once. It also gives you room to add more later if you want to, whereas an overdone result is far harder to walk back. If a practitioner suggests starting modestly, that is good practice rather than a lack of ambition.

Treating the right area

Sometimes the area that bothers you is not the area that most needs attention. What reads as tiredness beneath the eyes, for example, may relate to support in the midface rather than the undereye itself. Treating the cause rather than the symptom is often what produces the most natural looking improvement, which is why a whole face assessment matters so much.

Respecting proportion

Faces look balanced when their features sit in proportion with one another. A good practitioner considers how the lips, cheeks, chin and jawline relate before treating any one of them. This is where an understanding of facial anatomy earns its place, and it is a strong argument for choosing a medically trained practitioner.

Honest advice, including saying no

Perhaps the most underrated ingredient is a practitioner willing to say no. Sometimes the natural looking option is to do nothing, or considerably less than was requested. A clinic that agrees to everything asked of it is not protecting your result. Dr Mirali Patel, who is registered with the General Medical Council and holds a Level 7 Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine, works on the principle of enhancing rather than altering and will tell you honestly if a request would not serve you well.

Patience with the settling period

Treatments need time to settle, and judging the result too early often leads people to want more when the outcome would have been ideal a fortnight later. Following your aftercare and waiting for the recommended settling period is part of achieving a natural look.

Talking through your goals

If a natural result is what you are after, say so clearly at your consultation and expect the conversation to reflect it. You are welcome at the Streatham clinic or the Sydenham clinic, where a considered, conservative approach is always the starting point.
