Cheek Filler or Jawline Filler: Which Addresses Your Concern?

Cheek filler and jawline filler are two of the most popular treatments for facial definition, and patients often arrive unsure which one addresses what is bothering them. They work in different parts of the face and achieve different things, though they also influence one another. This guide explains what each is for and how to think about which suits your concern.

What cheek filler addresses

The cheeks sit at the centre of the face and provide support to the midface. When they lose a little volume, the face can look flatter or more tired overall. Cheek filler gently restores that support and structure, which often has a refreshing effect on the face as a whole rather than just the cheeks themselves. It tends to suit people who feel their face has lost some of its freshness or fullness through the middle.

What jawline filler addresses

Jawline filler works lower down, adding definition and structure along the lower face. It is chosen by people who feel their jawline lacks definition, or who would like a smoother, more defined line between the jaw and neck. It is popular with both men and women and tends to be about framing the lower face rather than restoring volume through the middle.

How they relate to each other

Here is the part people often miss. The cheeks and jawline are not independent. Because the cheeks support the midface, treating them can influence how the lower face appears, and vice versa. This is why a considered practitioner assesses the whole face rather than treating one area in isolation. Occasionally the area a patient asks about is not the area that would make the most difference.

So which do you need?

A helpful starting point is to ask whether your concern is about the middle of your face looking flat or tired, which points toward the cheeks, or the outline of your lower face lacking definition, which points toward the jawline. That said, this is genuinely a question for an in person assessment, because facial proportion is individual and a photograph or description only tells part of the story.

A whole face assessment

At Dr Mirali Aesthetics, Dr Mirali Patel, who is registered with the General Medical Council and holds a Level 7 Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine, assesses the face as a whole and considers how the features work together. The aim is always balance and a natural result, which often means doing less in the right place rather than more.

Working it out together

If you are unsure which area would make the difference for you, a consultation will clarify it. You are welcome at the Streatham clinic or the Sydenham clinic.
